It all started with a feeling of impending doom. Then the phone rang. It was the doorman announcing a delivery. “I’m not expecting any deliveries” i replied… “It’s from the Hamptons” he said. “Oh shit!” I answered, realizing it was this time of the year again. “Send it up..err.. i guess” i said, and waited anxiously by the elevator.
The elevator door opened to a mountain of fresh fruits and vegetables from Big Bossman’s gardens in the Hamptons. I think i lost consciousness at that point because the next thing i remember is the floor of my kitchen covered with bags and coolers full of fresh produce. I didn’t know if i should laugh or cry…
Over the next few days i did my best to quickly use everything and made ratatouille with the vegetables, and tarts, pies, cobblers, chutneys, syrups, ice creams and sorbets with the fruit (that doesn’t leave me much time for blogging, does it?). A…

I’m going to let you in on a little secret but ..shhhh… keep it for yourself. I’m working with a web-designer to make this blog bigger, better and badder. Yes, finally! Hopefully the new design will be ready to be unveiled by the end of August. It won’t be anything too drastic for the simple reason that.. err.. I’m cheap! Let’s just say there will be more room to stretch your legs and yes… i’m still thinking about adding a bowling alley and a 24/7 convenience store. I don’t know if it will fit though.
In the meantime, a few thank you:

Big Bossman was quite chatty and pleasant today, he even brought some beautiful zuchinni blossoms from his garden in the Hamptons. Too bad such nice behavior is considered extremely suspect in the private chef world. A boss too friendly should give you the willies. That’s the rule. Exactly 18 seconds later he asked if i could come out and work in the Hamptons for July 4th week-end. Crap… I knew it!!
You see, i don’t usually do week-ends. Call me a spoiled brat but there’s a week-end chef at Big Bossman’s… except for THAT week-end. The busiest week-end of the year. Oh well! That should produce good content for this blog and as you already know, i’m all about self-sacrifice.

Our food blogging community has been quick to band together for a good cause. This time, the cause is a bit closer to home: one of our own needs help. Briana Brownlow of Figs with Bri has breast cancer. She’s undergoing intensive chemotherapy and she needs our help. There’s a fund set up to help relieve some of her healthcare cost. If you have some money to spare this month, even just a little bit, please help. The donation site is here. Thank you.

Warning bacon lovers: The word ‘bacon’ was used 22 times in this post. Actually it’s 24 times now. Some people have been known to enter a trance at the repeated sound of bacon (25 times). Read at your own risk.
After indulging on everything pork this week-end i wanted to redeem myself and prepare something quick and healthy for dinner. No, no, nooo i have not turned vegetarian on you yet, my romance with bacon is very much alive and kicking but tonight i wanted wild salmon for dinner. The twist was to make it taste a bit like eh… bacon, but without using bacon. Not only i wanted a bacon-tasting salmon but it had to taste like spring too. It’s the poet in me, i think. Some of you might be wondering who is this guy and why does he want his salmon to taste like bacon!?.. Well, isn’t it everyone’s aspiration in life to taste like bacon? Duh!? I mean come on!!
