This morning I was startled by a flash of yellow outside the front window.  The flash swooped away and back, and came to rest on a stalk of pink coral bells along the front walk. A male goldfinch. I haven't seen them around our house in ages, though Bill saw one for the briefest of moments yesterday. A few seconds later, the female, less showy but no less pretty in her olive attire, arrived.
