About BMW Cars
The idea of the BMW was born in 1975, when auctioneer and racing driver
Hervé Poulain entered the 24-hour Le Mans race for the first time. Seeking a link
between the worlds of and racing, Poulain asked his friend, artist Alexander
Calder, to paint his 480-hp BMW 3.0 CSL. The result was so remarkable, BMW decided
to continue this collaboration. Today there are 16 BMW Cars by prominent
artists, from 10 countries spanning five continents.
