Pancakes: Substitute atta for maida. Try pancakes/crepes filled with crispy sprouts, or sliced tomatoes and sautéd paneer/chicken.
Yogurt: Whip yogurt with fruit. Top with nuts, prunes and toasted oats.
Nutrition bars: Mix cornflakes, toasted almonds, peanuts, sesame seeds, oats, with melted jaggery or honey, a few raisins and coconut flakes. Shape into rounds or bars and store.
Waffles: Have with savoury toppings instead of sweet. Moisten with olive oil instead of butter.
Fibre facts
A bowl of cereal, a splash of milk and a few banana slices are also a good breakfast option for fibre food.
People who ate high-fibre wholegrain cereal for breakfast every day had nearly a 30% lower risk of heart failure than those who chose other foods, found the ongoing Physicians’ Health Study in the US.
Eating a meal containing 19 grams of wholegrain fibre helped widen arteries by 40% in people with metabolic syndrome in a study published in the journal Diabetes Care.
