Nutty, nutty stuff. I was swearing like squadie last night I can tell you. I haven’t had a huge amount of scary things happen in my life. A really nasty bike accident in my teenage years, and that is about it.. Oh, Danika going into labor was pretty bloody scary (but exciting) too.
I type up a blog post last night, and submit it. 500 Internal Server Error. Bastards. I try again. Fuckers.
I am pretty computer savy, but the whole blog code/files/database thing is way beyond my price range. I scour the web looking for answers. A ton of people have had this. Solutions range from hacking some code on your blog, to just deleting your blog and starting again.
The first thing that went through my mind was when did I last back up my blog? Errrr… I cannot remember when. That is bad, really bad. To be honest, I am not completely sure how. And even if I did back it up, I would have no idea how to restore my blog from the backup.
The second thing that went through my mind was not all the blog posts I would loose. I have the photos, and some of the copy. It was loosing all the comments. People take time out of their day to leave me amazing comments, and then they are just gone. Poof. No more. I would only have myself to blame - not backing up and all. It seems so selfish on my part.
So, I check my email. No email.. Hmm, I send myself a test email. That doesn’t come through. Double hmmm. I try and check my email through webmail - webmail is screwed up. Ohhh, this could be a host problem… So many thoughts now go through my head. “If it is a host problem, then they will know how to fix it!!” “Eeeek, I wonder how good their tech guys are, and if they really can be bothered?”. I have had some really terrible experiences with hosting companies in the past - tech-wise, so I didn’t cross my fingers.
Turns out, LunarPages are awesome. Nothing like the half bit, piece of crap host I used to have. By the time I woke up in the morning, all was right as a rain. Thank fuck for that.
And to top it off, I tried to upgrade my laptop to XP service pack 3 last night. I of course should have realised this would be a bad idea… Microsoft and all… After nearly 30 minutes of updating, I can no longer access my wireless internet. Well, that was a waste of time, so I had to revert back to SP2. Wonderful.
So.. what I am really asking here is - how do people deal with this stuff? How do people backup their blogs, and restore it? Is there an easy way of doing it, without code and so forth?

I love “Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes A Day” ( by Jeff Hertzberg and Zoe Francois ). The great thing about this dough is that it can be kept in a large, covered bowl in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. I made up a batch last week right before we got hit by high temps and humidity. Not a problem, because this dough develops a sourdough flavor after sitting for at least a week. From one batch of this dough I baked 4 large rolls, the following focaccia bread and have enough left over for a small boule. This dough eliminates any time constraints you may have, bake a small free-form loaf while preparing your favorite pasta dish, or bake this rustic Focaccia with fresh home-grown veggies.

Almost a month ago, I embarked on a culinary journey that would make most wise bakers give pause. A crusty loaf of French sourdough seems simple enough, right?  It calls for no yeast - how hard could it be? As jealously insecure as a fourth wife whose husband just hired a 20 year old former Playmate as his new secretary, a sourdough starter is demanding, insisting you look at it rise and carefully watch for it to fall. You must then refresh the dough, kneading in new flour to the sticky mess, only to have to repeat the ritual two days later. This process lasts longer than most Hollywood marriages and by the time you graduate on to the actual bread making, you already intimately aquainted its tempermental nature.
Which is exactly why I knew deep down that this was not going to work out. I should have gone with my instinct and drawn up the pre-nup papers since I knew I wasn’t ever going to make my planned grilled paninis with it. But just lik…
You all remember when I bought those mulberries from the farmers market last week, right? Well, after explaining to Paul what they were and that yes, they were in fact edible, he said to me “you realize we have one of those in our backyard, right?” My ears perked up. Now, our backyard isn’t all that huge, but in the four years that we’ve lived here, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve wandered to that corner of the yard. Curious to see if it was in fact a mulberry bush, I took a look. It’s growing in between the split of our tree (while I know that will probably be a problem in the future, for the moment, I’m not going to worry about it).
Upon closer inspection, and after taking a leaf inside to compare with pictures of mulberry bushes on the internet, we found out that yes, indeed - it is a mulberry bush! Yay!
The great thing about the bush is that the berries, once they start ripening, do so very quickly. I can pick all the ripe berries and then 2 day…
