I think I may have mentioned in an earlier post, my weird obsessiveness around the number three…
My alarm goes off at 07:09… or occasionally 06:57. I’m eternally greatful that our time system is base 60… cook for 30 seconds, 15 minutes, 45 seconds, lovely… I even make friends’ coffee with three 2/3 teaspoons of coffee instead of just 2!
Now… are you still there? I’m not that weird, honest - it’s just one of my little quirks
I can skip it if I need to… I’d just rather not!
It’s not just me - Chinese people consider the number three to be lucky because it sounds like the word ‘alive’. And in many other cultures, it is considered a significant number due to the trinity of mind, body and soul.
So anyway, I love that the Royal Foodie Joust has three ingredients, and this month I decided to propogate the three-love by using the three ingredients to make three …

We are new to the world of food blogging and are becoming increasingly amazed, day by day, at the riches it offers. We have “met” many wonderful people travelling through the food-blogosphere, stalking their blogs and drooling over the food they cook and create.
Up until a month ago, we did not even know that blog events existed! Now that we have discovered them, we can de-lurk and come out from the blog-stalker shadows into the full light.
One of the sunniest of these blog events, it seems, is in Florida: The Royal Food Joust (hosted by the Leftover Queen).
Now, being our first participation in a joust, we don’t know how bloody this event would be or how battered we might be after the tournament. At the very least, we have seen people losing the shirts off their back…

My family loves soup. Don’t you? We love all kinds of soup. It can be clear soup or thick soup. It can be cream soup or Sinigang (Sour soup) or Chinese soup or Japanese soup or Filipino soup… Of course a soup can be comforting on a rainy wet day. Do you find it wierd that we also love to have hot soups in the middle of summer? But we do love soup regardless of the weather! I’m sure almost every Filipino and Chinese have one kind of soup or another with all their meals, rain or shine. We do not consider the soup as a mere starter. For us, the soup itself is already a viand (ulam). We spoon the soup over our rice and eat the contents - usually meat and veggies (laman) with our rice.
Here is another easy to do, nutritious thick soup. Need I mention it is flavorful and yummy?
200 gms fresh shrimp meat, chopped
300 gms fresh fish fillet, cut into small cubes
5 pcs kani sticks, cut
a bunch of chinese spinach (polunchay), washed, cho…
After being away from Singapore for a good 8 months to finish my last year in university, I came back and was craving for some seriously good Chilli Crabs. So last week I mentioned to a group of friends my desire and two of them started raving about this place on Causarina Road that had brilliant Chilli Crabs and out of this world Oyster Omelette. I was desperate so I happily set aside a night for them to bring me to this place. When my friend turned up to pick me from my house, I was suprised to find that this ‘gem’ was just a 5 minute drive from my house! Where have I been the last 21 years?? It was a Thursday night and when we arrived at 7pm, it was surprisingly packed. All tables were occupied and of course there was a big bowl of Chilli Crab in the middle of every table. We quickly ordered a crab, oyster omelette and shrimp-paste fried chicken.
Ten minutes later our shrimp-paste fried chicken had arrived.
