Tweakable vegan salads

I tend to find some of the best stumbles upon good combinations of food happen when you find that your fridge is getting empty and you know you should probably go out to restock. However, laziness can be a virtue as will be demonstrated by the below. I'm sure I've had varying versions of it before, but for some reason this version really surprised me (and the flatties). I realise it looks highly avoidable, in fact, I did reconsider restocking after I threw it together, but a few bites later I found myself chowing down. Pip ended up having the vegan version and actually liked it (despite hesitantly trying some at first), and I whipped up a quick caper mayo to dress it with (which, let me say, tasted brilliant).

I went and got this bag of whole berries and you can see that’s the reason for all related dishes coming up. I basically bought it to make the Halwa. I used just about a cup and there were no quarter kg bags available. And its not enough to grind into flour. Well we have come up with the sprouts. Though that’s a very healthy option, was wondering what other way to use it up. We were generally talking about the and how it can be used, when Athamma recollected her Mom making with Whole berries. Wow, that sound really tasty. More and more I heard about it, I was sure that’s what I wanted to try next.

Amma was also talking about the same. It seems her mom also used to make this . I really wonder why those age old recipes got lost track. I wanted to learn and see how its supposed to be prepared. Its very similar to the paruppu . But it was completely so different to taste and should I say the bowl was empty in flat 5 mins. …

We’re not yet, but we have been trying to eat more and as you can see here, some of it is working out very, very well :) We know eating is better for us and environmentally, for everyone else, too. Still it is so hard to give up a lot of foods you are used to eating, some on a daily basis!

On Power Girl I develop most of my own recipes, and you might have noticed that I have been creating more recipes without eggs or butter. Experiments can be frustrating, but as I experiment more and more I finally feel like I am getting somewhere.

I refuse to sacrifice taste for healthier ingredients, and I would not publish any recipe that didn’t taste absolutely wonderful — taste comes first! My Banana Walnut Chocolate Chip Muffin has been tested twice and was a big winner with and friends :) What can be better?! Last month, I had m…
