Rhubarb, which used to be so cheap they were practically giving it away at this time of year, has become fashionable, and in consequence the price has rocketed and the shopper has suffered. Granted, the highly prized stuff is the early pink stems, forced at the end of winter in special sheds, but even the later, coarser stalks are almost a luxury these days. How I wish I had it growing in the garden, as I had at previous houses. Next house, perhaps ? Anyway, it was on special offer this week, so (...)
