For years I tried to make my grandmother’s butter cookies, but they never tasted quite like hers, and after awhile I gave up, figuring that there was something wrong with the recipe.  My grandmother really never wrote any of her recipes down, nor did she measure with modern measuring equipment.  She used teacups and regular spoons and the recipe was probably written down by my mother, who stood by her side and watched what she was doing.  This year, as I prepared to g (...)
